Wisdom
Wisdom belongs to none of the tree's branches: it has no branch, no tier and no prerequisite. It can be queued from the first turn of the match and taken again and again — unlike the other nodes in the tree, it is not learned once and closed.
Cost and reward
The first completion costs 36 production, equal to the base cost of the tree's most expensive tier (the known-node brake is not added to it). After each completion the cost rises by 20 production, and that increase never goes back down. The cost is computed from the counter at the moment it is read: if Wisdom finishes in two of your cities in the same turn, the next city pays the cost already raised by the first completion.
Each completion grants a one-time 10 gold. The reward is gold, not score; it turns into score only at gold's own rate, and you may spend it instead. Wisdom does not count toward your known nodes, and it unlocks no doctrine or building.
The empty-queue default
A city whose queue runs out puts its draw into Wisdom on its own unless the setting is turned off; the item is not written into the queue. The setting is empire-wide and starts the match on — details on the The production queue page.
Restrictions
- The engine never rejects Wisdom: having taken it before, or having it waiting in another city's queue, does not stop you from queueing it.
- Like any research, it is an item in the city's The production queue: if the city changes hands, a half-finished Wisdom is cleared with the queue, but the count of completed ones stays with you.
When to research it
Wisdom comes into play when your production pool has nowhere else to go: when you have run out of nodes you can open in the tree, or when your pool comfortably exceeds what your queues need. While a node in the tree is still available, that node is usually worth more — it opens a lasting unit, building or effect for you, while Wisdom only yields gold. The general rules of research are on the Research and the tech tree page.
The numbers on this page are read from the game’s balance tables.
