The first tier of the muhafaza branch, with no prerequisite — you can queue it directly in any of your cities.

What it unlocks

It unlocks Standard-bearer: a support unit that raises the per-turn morale recovery of adjacent friendlies (Morale and rout). It can fight too, but it is weak — it is not the one that holds the line, the units beside it are.

When to research it

If you are heading into the muhafaza branch, this is the first node — Healing lists it as a prerequisite. If you play an army that fights often and has to recover its morale often, the Standard-bearer's contribution pays off early.
