Sipahi

The Sipahi is the heavy cavalry unlocked by Cavalry, the harp branch's second node: its identity is shock.

Horses first

It carries the same prerequisite as Raider: with no Horse pasture inside your territory it cannot enter a queue at all — an empire-wide gate (The production queue). Because the two share the same resource, a single pasture opens the door to two different cavalry branches at once.

Despite this shared prerequisite, the Opportunist line dynasty only applies to the Raider; the Sipahi's attack stays at 5 even under that dynasty (Opportunist line).

Carries shock

On top of its attack, a 1 share adds shock — a share that adds straight onto the defender's morale loss, on top of the damage and flanking shares (Morale and rout, "How morale drops"). Shock shakes a defender even without killing it; repeated Sipahi strikes quickly push a target toward being shaken or routed.

In the type triangle

It defends more strongly against Archer, Pioneer and Siege — all three stay weak as attackers against the Sipahi, full table in

. But it can be broken too: Spearman defends more strongly against the Sipahi — the Sipahi is more durable than the Raider, but it still cannot plow straight through a Spearman line.

Durable, and still fast

Its HP is 14 and its defense 2 — noticeably higher than Raider's — and its move is still a fast 5, still a fast cavalry unit. The price is cost: 9, above the Raider's (6).

When to build it

If you have the Horse resource and the side facing you comes with Archer, Pioneer or Siege: when any of the three attacks the Sipahi, it defends more strongly (in

). The Sipahi carries no extra type bonus when it attacks itself — its advantage kicks in while holding the line. Against the Spearman the reverse applies, there the Spearman defends more strongly; so the Sipahi's job remains not plowing through the line but breaking the soft target behind it.

Arriving by upgrade

A Raider can be upgraded into this unit with gold: instead of building one from scratch, a veteran moves to the new weapon. The price and the conditions are on the Economy page.
