Buildings
Foundry
A Foundry raises the city's production income purely by location: every Mountain, Mine or Iron deposit tile in the city's region adds a share, counting at most 2 tiles. A tile that is both mountain and a node still counts once. It is unlocked by Mining.
Its effects
- +1 Production for each Mine / Iron deposit / Mountain tile in the region (at most 2 tiles)
What it's for
A mountain is barren on its own; the Foundry turns a mountainous region into production. What sets it apart from the Workshop is that it has no base: in a city with no mountain, mine or iron it gives nothing. The two can stand in the same city, and their location shares are counted separately.
Production income also raises how much the city can draw from the pool each turn (The production queue): a mountain city with a Foundry finishes the same item in fewer turns.
When to build it
- In a city whose region holds mountains or a mine/iron node. The city panel shows, next to the item, the share that city would get from its location.
- In a city founded on plains, spend the slot on another building instead — there a Mill yields more.
The opposing AI builds the Foundry once its city quota is full and no enemy is near (The AI opponent).
